HER STORY
Ruksana is a 29 years old woman, living in Banaras city with her husband
Firoj Ahamd and her 3 children: Suhana 11 years, Ruhana 9 years and Faez 5
years.
Ruksana lives in a small, rented room of around 50 square meters with her
family. She pays 2000 rupees for the monthly rent, around 25 euros, plus
electricity. The house does not have a toilet, so her family has to share a
joint- toilet with the rest of the neighbours.
Inside the room they have an old TV, a gas cooker and a bed.
Ruksana attended school until the age of 16. After she got married, she
left school to become a housewife.
Due to her obligation towards her family, Ruksana started working
at a school close by where her children are being educated . She works as
a laborer, cleaning the premises. Her basic salary is around 60 euros per month
for 10 hours of work per day, from which the 25 euros are for school fees. With
the 35 euros remaining, she pays for the food and the rest of the family’s
expenses.
Her husband Firoj has been working as a construction worker for some time,
but it is not easy for him to find a job. Sometimes he goes to his village to
look for work but he does not always succeed.
Ruksana´s family situation is very precarious. That is why she contacted
Swawalambi asking for support.

HER CONTACT WITH US
In July of 2015, Ruksana met Cristina, a member of Swawalambi, while she
was working at the same school as her.
Due to a personal problem in which Ruksana was in need of some money, that
she did not have at the time, Cristina offered to lend her the money from the Swawalambi
account. In this way, Ruksana got to know about the NGO.
After a few days, she came to Cristina asking for support for herself and
her family.
Consequently, Cristina and Ravi (secretary of Swawalambi India) went to her
home on a social call to interview her. Ruksana then decided what she would
like to receive from the organization: help to open a small restaurant that her
husband will run.
Ruksana will help her husband in her free time, as well as continue working
at the school since it is a stable job for her and guarantees her children’s
education.

Ruksana has found a place to stablish her restaurant.
Now she needs Swawalambi and his donor’s support to make the family
self-sufficient and improve their quality of life.

RUKSANAS AND FIROJ COMPROMISE WITH SWAWALAMBI
Ruksana and Firoj have both accepted the agreement with Swawalambi NGO, so
after receiving help and beginning their business, they will return the funds
on a monthly basis and depending on the income from the restaurant, 50% of the
borrowed amount.
This money will stay in Swawalambi´s account and will be used to cover the
needs of other beneficiary, administrative and human resource expenses.
HOW YOU CAN COLABORATE WITH RUKSANA?
The way of collaborating is as diverse as Ruksana´s needs.
1. You can decide to
cover one of the expenses from the list below, for example her fridge, the
kitchen utensils, and so on.
2. You can donate any
amount and decide for which purpose you want to use it for, for example 20
euros for the fridge, 15 euros for the rent…
3. You can give a
monthly amount for the money that you want to collaborate with Ruksana´s
project until it will be complete, for example 10 euros per month.
4. You can take care
of the expenses fully and fulfill Ruksana´s needs.
5. You can also make
an anonymous donation directly on our account: ES73-0081-5249-1600-0115-7321 or
through Paypal in our Swawalambi account.
*May we remind you that for every Swawalambi policy, 10% of the donations
will be reverted to the NGO.
We will contact you and send you the form on which you can write how you
wish to collaborate.
Once your donation is made, Swawalambi will inform you about the
progression of the case, with photographs and written reports. If you visit
India at some point, and you want to visit Ruksana and her family, you are most
welcome! You will then be able to see the result of your share in this.
